From the synthesis of dimethyldichlorosilane, silicone rubber has been produced in the United States. Russia, Germany, Japan, Korea and China. The industrialization of silicone rubber in China began in 1957. Various kinds of silicone rubber have been developed by many research institutes and enterprises of silicone rubber manufacturers. By the end of 2003, China's silicone rubber production capacity was 135,000 tons, including 100,000 tons of high temperature rubber.

Silicone rubber manufacturers generally have dozens or even hundreds of varieties and brands, mostly in accordance with the characteristics of commodities and use numbers, but also in accordance with vulcanization methods and chemical structure classification. According to the curing temperature, silicone rubber can be divided into high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber and room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. From the packaging form, it can be divided into single component and two component room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. According to the degree of polymerization, silicone rubber can also be divided into mixed silicone rubber and liquid silicone rubber.

High temperature vulcanization of silicone rubber means that the process of polysiloxane becoming elastomer is cured at high temperature (110-170 C). It mainly uses high molecular weight polymethylvinyl siloxane as raw rubber, mixed with reinforcing fillers, vulcanizing agents, etc., and vulcanized into elastomers under heating and pressure. Silicone rubber is mainly reinforced by various types of silica, which can increase the strength of vulcanizate by tens of times. Sometimes in order to reduce costs or improve the properties of rubber and give vulcanizates various special properties, various additives are also added. Vulcanizing agents are various organic peroxides or catalysts for addition reactions.
