High-frequency power supply usually uses transformer to raise 380 volts of three-phase to about 20,000 volts of high voltage, then uses thyratron or high-voltage silicon rectifier elements to rectify AC power to DC power, and then uses electronic oscillator to convert DC power to AC power of high frequency and high voltage. The output power of high frequency power supply equipment ranges from tens of kilowatts to hundreds of kilowatts.

The object heated by induction must be a conductor. When the high frequency AC current passes through the conductor, the conductor produces skin effect. The current density on the surface of the conductor is high and the current density in the center of the conductor is low.

Induction heating can be used for uniform heating and surface heating of metal objects; can melt metal, can be used for metal brazing, can be used for metal (quenching, tempering, normalizing) and other heat treatment, as well as heat transmission for forging; in high frequency band, change the shape of heating coil (also known as inductor), can also be used for arbitrary local heating.

The object is heated by the high temperature generated by the arc. Arc is a gas discharge phenomenon between two electrodes. The arc voltage is not high, but the current is large. Its strong current is maintained by a large number of ions evaporated on the electrode, so the arc is susceptible to the influence of the surrounding magnetic field. When an arc is formed between the electrodes, the temperature of the arc column can reach 3000-6000K, which is suitable for high temperature melting of metals.
